1964 Rambler American 440

We dub this The Little Rambler that Could! This is a project that had been sitting for about 12 years before it was brought to Motocar Revival Company.  From the outside it looked like a nice, clean project. Disassembly, however, proved otherwise.  After we removed the paint and the body filler, we found that this body was patched together with tin, rivets, newspaper (yes, NEWSPAPER), and body filler. At the point of papier-mâché, we called our customer in.  He really needed to make the decision whether to go forward or scrap the project and move on to something different. We were happy that he decided to move forward because the end result was a beautiful vehicle. 

With the decision made to move forward, our staff jumped directly into metal fab.  We repaired the holes in the front fenders, we fabricated the rear quarter panels, repaired the rust holes in the wheel tubs, and made and replaced the rocker panels. We further repaired the rust holes in the tail pan and pulled out some dents and dings. Sending the motor and transmission out to have them both rebuilt, we finished off the body work and painted the car the stock red that it originally came with. After wet sanding and buffing, we polished the trim and reassembled the vehicle. The interior and top were replaced and pop against that original American Motors Corporation red.  The end result of this phenomenal journey was a little car that not just could be great but was.
